Visual Impact

Part of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is to forecast visual impacts on the environment. Frequently Asked Questions pertaining to a development project's visual impact may include:

  • Where are the proposed structures visible?
  • How many structures are visible (such as transmission line towers)?

A Geographical Information System (GIS) is a very powerful tool to assess the visibility and the visual impact of future structures. With ArcGIS, Mannvit can answer these questions with simple maps and “before and after” images. One of the methods used to assess visual impact and visibility of structures is line of sight analysis.

GIS can be used to assess and present visibility and visual impact of future structure on simple maps and figures.
