Theistareykir Line 1 and Krafla Line 4, 220 kV

The two 220 kV, high-voltage lines will be owned by Landsnet. Krafla line 4 lies from Krafla Power Station to Theistareykir Power Station, from where theystareykir line 1 leads to the industrial area at Bakki by Húsavík, Iceland. The HV lines supply power to PCC's €265 million environmentally compatible silicon metal production plant. The HV lines are steel mast lines, approximately 65 km long and built with stayed pipe masts. Several types of masts have been designed for corners and the ends of the line. The line has ground lines close to the substations. A track 3.5 m wide runs alongside the line. Mannvit’s work on the project consists of preliminary explorations of the line area, comparison of options and selection of final arrangements, installation of towers, selection of the trail location, soil investigations, selection of mines, preparation of tender documents and HSE plan and consultation during the tender and construction period.

“It has been an enjoyable challenge to steer this project, as we have developed it from the start of the design process, as well as assessing the environmental impact. New mast types have been developed at the end of the line. When preparing the tender documents and HSE plan, particular care was taken to ensure the contractor’s best possible conduct in the area’s delicate environment. Mannvit’s employees have done excellent work and been praised by the buyer for their swift and smooth services.”
