Garpsdalur, Wind farm

Mannvit is working on preparations for a wind farm in Garpsdalur (Reykhólahreppur, West Iceland). Consultancy services are provided in the field of project management for environmental impact assessments, a field in which Mannvit experts have extensive experience. The company plans to install up to 35 wind turbines in a 3.3 km2 area on Garpsdalsfjall. These turbines will generate up to 130 MW of green energy at a height of almost 500 m above sea level. EM Orka estimates the cost of the project at ISK 16 billion, while direct tax revenue for the Icelandic state is estimated to be more than ISK 7.4 billion over the lifetime of the project.

The wind farm will be linked to the 132 kV substation in Geiradalur via a power line to be laid in the ground. Efforts will be made to plan the area in such a way as to minimise visual impact and noise pollution for the surrounding area and to ensure minimal disturbance to the surrounding environment.
