Electrification of fishmeal factory, Neskaupstadur
Mannvit took on the task of electrification of a fishmeal factory for Síldarvinnslan in Neskaupstadur, in east Iceland. Mannvit handled the construction management and the design of various machinery, HVAC and structural design. Several other contractors worked on the project, which is a big step forward and markedly increases the plant’s competitiveness. The project included, for example, electrification of dryers that were previously run with energy produced using oil.
The project also included various alterations to the factory. The change will have very positive impact on the environment and the factory’s profitability by lowering energy costs and reducing emissions into the atmosphere. By using renewable energy, the fishmeal factory will avoid price fluctuations and unexpected increases in future operating costs from imported fuel.
