Alcoa Fjardaál Aluminium Smelter

Following an international tender process the Bechtel Corporation and Mannvit’s subsidiary HRV Engineering as Bechtel‐HRV were chosen by Alcoa to design and build a 346,000 tpy aluminium smelter in Reydarfjordur, Iceland on an EPC basis. The Design, Construction and Commissioning, followed by various improvement and maintenance projects, of the new aluminium smelter. The EPC delivery of the aluminium smelter is completed. Various improvement and maintenance projects are ongoing.

The project included an AP3X potline with cranes for pot tending and metal tapping, a GTC, rodding shop and bath recycling plant and a vacuum ship unloader.

HRV played a major role in the design and construction of the smelter as Bechtel‐HRV undertook the project on an EPC basis, being responsible for all engineering, procurement and construction, as well as overall project management, including management of external contracts, and preparatory work, including EIA for the entire smelter.
