Mannvit part of development for port installations at Dysnes
Lately Mannvit has been focusing on the northern regions with future projects in mind - projects in relation to increased traffic of large service vessels and tankers due to oil exploration along with services to mining operations in Greenland. Regarding a possible Icelandic participation in this development, the Dysnes Development Association Ltd. has been established for marketing and promotion of Dysnes at Eyjafjördur as a future port area for mining and oil extraction.
Mannvit is in partnership in Dysnes Development Association Ltd with Eimskip, Eyjafjördur Development Agency, North Iceland Port Association and Slippurinn. Dysnes Development Association will be involved in the development and structure of port installations at Dysnes, situated 15 km north of Akureyri. A 90 hectares area has been reserved for this project, thereof 30 hectares will be a landfill. Construction work is expected to be in phases, and the first phase will start after an environmental impact assessment (EIA) has been conducted. Total cost of the project could add up to 1,800 million ISK in coming years. The Eyjafjördur Development Agency will supervise daily management of the partnership, with Thorvaldur Lúdvík Sigurjónsson as manager.
