Geothermal Heating in Schwerin

Schwerin geothermal plant inauguration took place on April 28th with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attending the event. This geothermal heat plant is a milestone in geothermal development in Northern Germany. From the very beginning in 2015, Geothermie Neubrandenburg GmbH (GTN) has played a key role in shaping the geothermal heat supply project in Schwerin through all planning phases. Geothermie Neubrandenburg GmbH, a subsidiary of Mannvit, took a part in the Northern German Heat Transition inauguration event on the Friday.

The Schwerin project is a real milestone in the German geothermal industry and as a result enjoyed enormous political and media attention, not least due to the presence of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who undoubtedly underlined the importance of deep geothermal energy for Germany with the commissioning of the plant. The heat plant supplies enough heat for over 2000 homes in the area. Since the beginning in 2015, GTN has been instrumental in shaping the geothermal heat supply project in Schwerin with the planning and implementation of the heat pump system there, many other geological reservoirs with lower temperatures can be made economically and technically viable and large parts of the heat demand.

A large number of press representatives reported from the event. One of these was the ARD Tagesschau:
