Well Site Geology and Drilling Supervision
Well site geology and drilling supervision
Geothermal project developers are aware of the importance of risk mitigation during the most important phases of their development. Successfully connecting the well to the geothermal aquifer is amongst the most important tasks undertaken during the project implementation. This will determine the success of the whole project.
Owing to the long history of geothermal utilization in Iceland and the recent activity in Germany and Hungary, the Mannvit team has amassed significant expertise and experience in this unique field, which is not directly transferable from other industries. The Mannvit team offers 40 years of experience in providing services for geothermal drilling as well as acting as the client’s representative during third party drilling.
Services provided for geothermal drilling:
- Bid preparation and tender evaluation
- Supervision of drilling contracts
- Well logging program design and interpretation
- Drilling engineering
- On-site geology
- Well work-over programs
- Environmental reports
Project example: Iceland Deep Drilling Project (IDDP)
The IDDP consortium includes: Sudurnes Regional Heating Company, National Power Company (Landsvirkjun), Reykjavik Energy, the National Energy Authority of Iceland, Statoil and Alcoa. One deep well has been drilled into one high-temperature hydrothermal system in order to reach 400-600°C supercritical hydrous fluid at a rifted plate margin on the mid-oceanic ridge in Iceland. The testing of the well is ongoing (Jan. 2010). For more information see the IDDP
website.
Mannvit services for IDDP:
- Well design
- Bid preparation and tender evaluation
- Drilling technology
- Supervision of drilling
- Technology for fluid handling and evaluation
